The situation
Why this project matters
Football is a unifying sport, and this tournament was designed to unite Namamali Ward: eight teams, equal categories for boys and girls, and the whole community — parents, leaders and local stakeholders — brought together around the pitch.
Beyond the matches, the tournament served as a talent-scouting platform and a public statement that girls belong in competitive sport, challenging norms that keep them out.
Delivered on a budget of Ksh 292,000 covering match balls, uniforms for all eight teams, trophies, cash prizes, refereeing and event management.
Objectives
- Encourage young people, boys and girls alike, into football and healthy competition
- Offer equal opportunities for both genders in competitive sport
- Provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills
- Involve the local community in sports-related activities to build unity
