KEYSA held a youth empowerment forum in Nairobi focused on promoting economic sustainability while raising awareness about human trafficking — two struggles that are, in reality, one. Traffickers prey on economic desperation; secure livelihoods are the strongest protection a young person can have.
The forum equipped participants with knowledge and practical strategies to enhance their livelihoods: understanding the push and pull factors that drive risky migration and exploitation, building income security, and making informed decisions about opportunities that sound too good to be true — because many of them are.
Sessions combined presentations with open discussion, giving young people space to ask hard questions about job offers abroad, online recruitment, and the warning signs of trafficking. Participants left with concrete steps to reduce their vulnerability and with networks they can turn to when an opportunity needs verifying.
This forum is part of KEYSA's growing anti-trafficking and youth-livelihoods work, which also includes our participation in the 4th International Conference on Human Trafficking at Tangaza University. We believe informed, economically empowered young people are the hardest targets traffickers will ever meet — and the strongest builders of secure, sustainable futures for their communities.
